Welcome to the Thomas Walton Manor, a Bed and Breakfast Inn,
located in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Come in and savor the restful
elegance of one of North Carolina's most gracious residences.
Designed by John Weaver of New York City and modeled after
plantations along the James River outside of Richmond, VA, this
stately Georgian colonial, was built by the Hervey Evans family in
1939. As beautiful outside as it is inside, the garden area,
designed by famous landscape designer, Charles Gillette of Richmond,
VA, is lush and replete with specimen camellias, a swimming pool,
smokehouse retreat, herb garden and fish pond.
The current owner, Larry Horne, is a Laurinburg native.
As a child, he would pass the house with his parents and wonder at
its beauty, longing to slip beyond the iron gate, climb the winding
staircase, and explore the fifteen rooms. However, it was some
thirty years and a successful career as a world-reknowned interior
designer in the Washington, D.C. area before his dream came true.
When
the house finally went on the market in 1999, Mr. Horne, knowing he
would like to eventually return to live once again in Laurinburg,
had the opportunity to purchase his special house. He has since
restored and updated the house and brought it back to life with his
exquisite design sense and creative flair. Mr. Horne has filled the
house with color, hand-painted murals, stenciled floors, marble
bathrooms, Italian chandeliers and rich fabrics. He blends old and
new with unique art pieces he has collected in his travels
throughout the world, making each room an arresting and tranquil
experience.
