ABOUT THE AREA
Laurinburg is the county seat of Scotland County, located in southeastern North Carolina. Although one of the smaller counties in the state, it is ideally situated halfway between Charlotte, the state's largest city and Wilmington, the state's largest port. In 2003, Laurinburg was awarded the All America City Award, from the National League of Cities.

Scottish HeritageScotland County is home to 31 major industries, seven shopping centers, 15 public schools, nearly 150 churches, St. Andrews Presbyterian College, Scotia Village Retirement Community, the Lumber River Canoe Trail, the popular John Blue Cotton Festival that attracts more than 10,000 annually, the authentically-kilted Scotland High School Marching Band and the summertime Laurinburg After Five family-style outdoor concerts. The sounds of wailing bagpipes are an integral part of many community gatherings, symbolizing the county's strong Scottish heritage.
